The Biofilta wicking beds now offer the Environmental Education program another teaching point in regards to growing fresh produce. It now accompanies our traditional, vertical and aquaponics growing techniques which help students understand the basics of growing different fruit and vegetables for themselves.
The wicking beds work by constantly supplying water to the plants from its reservoir that usually only requires filling every 2 weeks. This creates an advantage of other growing methods as now we can grow produce in any season and during school holidays when nobody is around to water plants.
Growth of the produce also improved which was evident from our first harvest that only took 6 weeks instead of 8-10 weeks usually in our other garden beds.
