Performing Arts

Performing Arts @ ARPS:

Performing Arts at Athol Road Primary School encompasses the 3 disciplines of Music, Dance and Drama.

In Music, all students use tuned and un-tuned instruments to explore rhythm, pitch, texture, tone colour, dynamics and melody. Students in Years 3-6 have the opportunity to explore instrumental learning with the ukulele and perform songs. Singing is also a major facet of each lesson with students learning songs to encourage oral language, confidence and musicianship.

In Dance, students explore creative movement, learn choreographed dances and move expressively to different musical types. Students use the elements of dance to explore choreography and performance and to practise choreographic, technical and expressive skills. Students respond to their own and others’ dances using movement and other forms of communication.

In Drama, students explore mime, expression, improvisation and script writing. Drama enables students to imagine and participate in exploration of their worlds, individually and collaboratively. Students actively use body, gesture, movement, voice and language, taking on roles to explore and depict real and imagined worlds. They create, rehearse, perform and respond using the elements and conventions of drama with emerging and existing technologies available to them.

There are many opportunities for students to extend their performing arts experiences through participation in:

  • Senior Choir
  • Junior Choir
  • Ukulele Club
  • School Band
  • Wakakirri
  • Victorian State Schools Spectacular
  • Music: Count Us In Event
  • School Concert
  • Athol Road’s Got Talent!
